Abstract
The east-northwestern of Iran (Ardebil province) is little known in the archaeological literature despite the valuable works and remains, and its prehistoric and even historical chronology was formed based on the explorations of Lake Urmia. Unfortunately, due to the lack of scientific and methodical studies and researches about the archeology of Namin, there is not much information about the background and different prehistoric and historical periods of the region. One of the most significant sites of Namin city in Ardebil province is the Beris Tepe with 7 meters of cultural deposits in the center of Beris village, which has not been studied until now despite the many damages. In this research, with a descriptive-analytical method and in the field - library, the goals of this research is to determine the surrounding area of the site, try to determine the residential phases and study its cultural findings. Based on sounding excavation in Beris Tepe, it was determined that the residential phases in the site mainly belong to the early Bronze Age (Kura-Araxes II). Then, the settlement periods of the Iron Age III, the historical period (Ashkan-Sasanian) and the Middle Islamic period (Seljuq-Ilkhanid) can be seen in it. The main cultural findings of the excavations include: pottery pieces from the mentioned periods, stone tools made of chert along with two pieces of obsidian core from the early Bronze Age, architectural features and especially the oven, evidence of pottery tokens; and there were clay figures of animals (buffalo) and a piece of bronze bracelet.
