Authors
Abstract
The archaeological survey and excavation at Maymeh II have been done following to the construction of Maymeh dam with the purpose of documentation, ensuring of the existence of archaeological layers, and answering some questions such as the way of settlement, chronology, cultural consequences and the function of site. This study includes a descriptive-analytical method, with the aid of field and library studies to analyze the findings. All findings are gathered from the ground survey, and there is no evidence of cultural or architecture layers despite the digging of 12 trenches in different points of the site. Accordingly, it seems that this site is a Paleolithic open site on approximate scale of 45 acres, which has been used as a place for manufacturing the stone tools. There are some evidences, such as some pottery sherds and part of a pottery sickle, which indicate the nomadic societies would use this place as a seasonal occupation in prehistorical and historical periods. There is a deficiency in the knowledge of Paleolithic period in Dehloran plain, against the other periods. Therefore, studies with the focus on Paleolithic sites such as Maymeh II, with a high density of artifacts, can illuminate the way to gain a better understanding of this period in Dehloran region
