Abstract
Straits are one of the most complex geomorphological phenomena. In the mountainous climate of Iran, Strait or fortress is a narrow passage that passes between two mountains with high walls and was protected by creating a defensive barrier and placing shooters on both sides of the strait. One of the most strategic fortresses of Iran is the Pars Darband in the area of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, which was the gateway to the Persian province and became the battle place of Hakhamaneshi Aryobarzan and Eskandar, when Eskandar the Great invaded Persia. The position of the Pars Darband is not clear to us and the efforts of domestic and foreign researchers in developing various theories to reveal the position of this place name did not go anywhere; but everyone agrees on the occurrence of the Pars Darband war in one of the straits of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Region. One of the most important questions of this research is, where is Pars Darband? Using field research, historical geography studies and descriptive-analytical methods were applied among the possible options. Due to the lack of resources on Pars Darband, the authors investigated historical texts and used the gathered information to understand the position of this fortress. Also, by conducting field surveys, all the old and strategic dams in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad region were identified so that the possible location and its compliance with Pars Darband would be investigated through matching the given signs in historical texts. This way, the ambiguity surrounded the location of this fortress could be resolved.
