Greek Elements Manifetation in Sassanid Reliefs

Abstract
Relation between Iranian and Greek Societies dates to the times earlier than Hellenistic periods of Iran. Regarding this, artistic transactions have long history between two civilizations. Since, Parthians inherited Seleucids’ territories, their artistic creativity was affected by Greek territories; and as Sassanid were Parthians’ successors, Hellenism can be traced in their manifestations. However, it is disseminated that Sassanid art is uprising of oriental traditions, but Greek elements penetration should not be ignored. Demarcations on evolutional process of Sassanid art express that the art of ?rd AD century is derivative of clearly. Sassanid reliefs are reliable witness for Hellenistic traditions continuity after Hellenism era including Greek depicting tradition such as gods’ personification, Hercules image, Nike goddess picture, nimbus, realism, Plasticity, Perspective, equal statics that can be seen among different artistic phases of the period. However, no exact demarcation can be offered about accepting or rejecting Greek elements; and when Late Sassanid art is referred as “rejecting alien elements” phase, Nike depiction is seen at Taq-i-Bostan, Kirmanshah. By the way, derivative elements reduced to aesthetic aspects and in other definitions faded to current society believs.
